Special Issue Introduction

Wildlife, both free-ranging animals and plants, are all key parts of the biodiversity and global ecosystem, which is considered a key point of global security calling for a common effort under the framework of One Health. In a changing world, more and more risk factors can have an impact on wildlife health. These risks can be natural or anthropogenic, but both have ecological consequences, and most of the time, the complicated procedure and results are not feasible to be evaluated, for example, deforestation, land utilization, expansion of the distribution of hosts and pathogens, and even their insect vectors. Nowadays, the assessment of the relationship between ecological risk and wildlife health is insufficient. Therefore, it is urgent and practical to monitor and understand the distribution, migration, and risks in the process within the ecosystem. Around the world, scientists are struggling to reveal the relationship between ecological risk and wildlife health through ecological toxicology, medical geography, epidemiology, and social economy. We therefore invite valuable contributions to implement the One Health concept. Research articles related to population, habitat, landscape, anthropoid activities monitoring, and ecosystem service assessment within our topic are all welcome.

We welcome submissions on the selected topics and beyond. The special issue covers the following topics, relevant but not limited to:
1. Population dynamics of hosts, vectors, and pathogens and the health of wildlife;
2. Community structure and the health of wildlife;
3. Habitat degradation and the health of wildlife;
4. Restoration of the environment and the health of wildlife;
5. Reintroduction of wildlife and the health of wildlife;
6. Environmental toxic and harmful substances and the health of wildlife;
7. Diseases and the health of wildlife;
8. Parasites and the health of wildlife;
9. Deficiency and poisoning diseases and the health of wildlife;
10. Genetic responses of wildlife to ecological risk.
